Aéreos, con detalles constructivos vinculados a la tradición japonesa, los asientos agregables Torii juegan con las formas redondeadas de los volúmenes, la ligereza de los espesores y la aparente simplicidad formal de un proyecto muy articulado.
En la construcción de la estructura de metal de las patas de los asientos y las mesitas, Nendo evoca la imagen del «torii», la puerta de acceso a los santuarios sintoístas de Japón. Mediante un juego de encastres de sofisticada ligereza visual, los elementos horizontales apoyan sobre unos soportes verticales para acoger el volumen tapizado, caracterizado por el aspecto couture de su confección.
La familia Torii incluye sofás —con respaldo alto o bajo y líneas rectas o redondeadas a la altura de los brazos— sofás inclinados con una combinación de dos profundidades diferentes, sillones y butacas para el salón y el comedor, pufs, mesitas bajas y una estilizada consola ovalada que puede colocarse libremente en el salón.
Su articulado surtido permite diseñar una disposición flexible y agregar diversos elementos creando una fuerte unidad visual.
La repetición de la estructura de metal en las distintas piezas de la familia Torii evoca la imagen del «Senbon Torii, las columnas de madera que componen un túnel con 1000 puertas torii bermellón», como recuerda Nendo.
El respaldo, de espesor reducido, está recorrido por un pespunteado de listones verticales y por un ribeteado perimétrico que resaltan el aspecto couture de su confección. Si se asocia con un revestimiento textil, el ribeteado de ecopiel y econobuk se realiza en un color ligeramente contrastante pero en la misma gradación que el tejido, mientras que en presencia de un revestimiento de piel el ribeteado también es de piel, en la misma tonalidad de color. Todos los elementos tapizados del sistema pueden personalizarse seleccionando el revestimiento: totalmente en tejido o en piel o en tejido con base de piel.
Los asientos se pueden equipar con un revistero de piel trabajado con técnicas inspiradas en la marroquinería y embellecido con detalles de metal coordinados con la base. El extremo del elemento horizontal de las patas de metal ha sido diseñado de manera que parece retener el respaldo y el asiento, evocando los dictámenes de la técnica Kigumi aplicada tradicionalmente en Japón para la carpintería de madera. Colocado en el extremo, un pequeño disco decorativo con acabado Black-Nickel y forma de botón-joya añade un detalle exclusivo al conjunto creando un juego de contrastes con el acabado en metal barnizado en color Bronce de las patas.
Con su perfecta forma circular, los sillones fijos y giratorios han sido diseñados para responder a todo tipo de necesidades prácticas o ergonómicas y declinados en múltiples variantes. Los asientos —en versión Poltrona, Large, Medium y Small— y las butacas Dining, Dining Large y Lounge son el resultado de un estudio exhaustivo para expresar con fidelidad la sofisticada simplicidad de su confección. La base está disponible en piel o en tejido.
Algunos elementos presentan un tablero de mármol Calacatta o Stone Grey barnizado poliéster mate en la extensión de la base que ha sido realizado estudiando atentamente las proporciones, el espesor y los detalles constructivos para asegurar una perfecta integración en el asiento, incluso desde un punto de vista estético.
En la versión Torii Nest, el sillón Small presenta un respaldo de piel entrecruzada y diseño inspirado en la paja de Viena insertado en un marco de madera maciza de Fresno que apoya sobre una base de la misma madera.
Las mesitas Torii retoman los recursos estilísticos y constructivos de los asientos en su estructura de metal, con acabado barnizado en color Bronce y detalles de metal Black-Nickel. Disponibles en diferentes alturas y tamaños, con un diámetro que alcanza los 120 cm, pueden tener un tablero de mármol Calacatta o Stone Grey con acabado poliéster mate, de pasta de vidrio de color Negro o de madera de fresno cepillada color Regaliz con marco lacado mate en color Regaliz.
